Buenos Tardes!
Myself and Dean have just finished our first tour in Quito.
The old part of town is very charming and offers a time traveling experience back to the old colonial times.
I was bit paranoid of being robbed since I had read too many negative comments regarding this issue. Not sure if it was because of the altitude, but each time I would get bumped in the streets, my heart started pounding and my hands would rush to my pockets.
The weather is very pleasant and there is a mix of sun and clouds, but a lot of sun that pounds really hard.
We are getting rapidly acclimatized by walking long hours and visiting the many churches of the old town. We summited a cathedral bell tower which I will consider as my first peak in Ecuador!
We will likely change some plans this week and climb Cayambe first as weather is better on that mountain then the ones originally planned. It will be dumping lots of snow on Cotopaxi so we will leave this peak for the next week-end, time for some snow stabilization.
We are truly enjoying ourselves here and I am getting many flashbacks from my previous Brazilian life, the smells, the local habits, some of the food etc.
Tonight is new years eve and the locals seem very excited, the celebrations have started since the end of christmas. They are all costumed and have mannequins everywhere (especially on their engines)
Because we are doing our first summit tomorrow, will not party much but will try to get a glimpse of what this is all about in Quito.
More news to come!
